Jurene Slindee

Jurene L. Slindee, 83, of Lyle, died Thursday morning, Dec. 17, 2009 at Good Samaritan Society of St. Ansgar, Iowa.
She was born March 24, 1926 to Bernard and Pearl E. (Grovo) Stubberud in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. Jurene grew up and received her education in the Mona, Iowa and Lyle, Minn. area. She married Algie Burnett Slindee on April 1, 1944 in Lyle, Minnesota. The couple owned and operated the Ortranto Garage from 1953 to 1955. They were members of Mona Lutheran Church and founding members of the Cedar Valley Engine Club. Jurene enjoyed dancing, playing her accordion and her animals. They farmed in the Lyle area and later moved to Charles City, Iowa before returning to rural Lyle in 1968. Algie died on July 31, 1976. In 1982, Jurene married Conrad Peterson, who later died of cancer. Jurene entered the Good Samaritan Society of St. Ansgar on Oct. 18, 2006.
Survivors include her son, Algie (Kay) Slindee of rural Elma, Iowa; her daughter, Terrie (Steven) Nitardy of Grand Rapids, Minn.; four grandchildren, Sonja (Mike) Cotton of Charles City, Iowa, Brent (Terry) Slindee of Elma, Iowa, Nadia Slindee of Iowa City, Iowa and Ashley (Daniel) Shankle of Superior, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Mija Cotton, Joslyn Cotton, Kaleb Cotton and Elijah Shankle; two step-great-granddaughters, Shannon Loeckle and Leah Strouf; daughter-in-law, Linda Slindee of Austin; half-brothers and sisters, Bonnie (Donald) Franks of Rock Falls, Ill., Annette (Harvey) Henrix of Pekin, Ill., Steven (Marge) Stubberud of Waterloo, Iowa and Carla (Patrick) Gionson of Eagle River, Alaska; sister-in-law, Mary Slinde of Rose Creek; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Algie and Conrad; son, Emanuel; brother, Emmanuel Stubberud; two half-brothers, Gene and Mervin Dale Stubberud.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at Mona Lutheran Church, Mona, Iowa with Pastor Lydia Mittag officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Interment is at First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
