James Davis Rupert, 77, of River Falls, died Dec. 10, 2009 following an apparent stroke.
James was born on Sept. 17, 1932 in River Falls to George and Lillian Rupert. He graduated from River Falls High School and the University Of Wisconsin River Falls. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959. On June 23, 1962, he was united in marriage to Alberta L. Luke at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eveleth, Minn. To this union, children Anne, Michael, and Jeffrey were blessed. He furthered his education by receiving his master’s from the University of Minnesota. He taught foreign languages in Marion, Wisconsin, as well as Coleraine and Austin. He became a professor at the University of Wisconsin, teaching foreign languages from 1968 until his retirement in 1994. In addition to his passion for foreign languages, he lived his lifelong dream of building a home on the St. Croix River. He enjoyed traveling; especially 10 times to Norway to study Norwegian and to pursue his family history and genealogy. Over the years, camping with his family and photography, as they went along, gave him great pleasure. He enjoyed classical music, the pipe organ, and played the accordion in a polka band earlier in life.
James will fondly be remembered by his wife of 47 years Alberta, daughter Anne (Mark) Lamps and their children Joseph, Christopher, and Maria; sons Michael (April) Rupert, Jeffrey Rupert, and special cousin Sharon Waight.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hudson. Visitation will be Dec. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. Memorials preferred.
