Herbert Bernard “Ted” Kilgore was born May 29, 1915 in Kidder County, N.D., son of Harry Benjamin Kilgore and Alma Louise Hesselgrave. After his mother’s death in 1918, he spent his time between his father’s home and his grandmother’s home in Austin. Ted was united in marriage to Lucille Lura Wood, daughter of Roy Henry Wood and Mae Emma Carle, on Oct.15, 1939, at the Wood family home south of Austin. After working for other farmers for several years, the couple managed to purchase their own land and buildings in rural Rose Creek, where they raised a family including seven children. Ted also worked several years at Owatonna Canning Company and St Olaf Hospital. After retiring from farming, the couple built a home in Rose Creek where they lived until two years ago. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Oct. 15, 2009.
