Dorothy Jean Lord, 74, of Austin died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at her winter home in Florida.
She was born June 16, 1935 in Austin to David and Zelma (Staley) Sayles.
Dorothy graduated from Austin High School in 1953. On May 12, 1956, she married Delmer Lord at the First United Methodist Church in Austin. She retired after many years of banking.
Dorothy loved to cook and entertain her entire family. Gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite times. She loved growing flowers and rose bushes and sitting on her patio, where she could see it all. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents David and Zelma Sayles and sister Lorraine.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Delmer Lord, Austin; daughters, Beth (Dean) Oakes, Muscatine, Iowa, Gale (Bradley) Switzer, Austin; grandchildren, Bryan (Michelle), Samuel, Benjamin, Kirstin, and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Olivia; brother, Raymond Sayles; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Toschak officiating. Interment will be in Enterprise Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
