Donald Fate

Donald D. Fate, 80, of Grand Meadow died Dec. 1, 2009 at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow where he had resided for a short time.

Donald was born Aug. 20, 1929 in Charles City, Iowa to Julius Fate and Elsie Groreich Fate. After attending country schools through the eighth grade he quit school to help on his family’s farm. He was united in marriage to Lois Bulson at the United Bretheran Church in Austin and they were later divorced. Over the years, Don farmed, worked for the city of Stewartville, for Iverson Sanitation in Grand Meadow and for several local farmers. He enjoyed his garden and watering the flowers that lined the streets of Grand Meadow.

He is survived by his children, Elaine (Steve) Iverson of Grand Meadow, Bill (Barb) Fate of Wykoff, Chery (Les) Stier of Grand Meadow, Dale Fate of Austin and Ronald Fate of Forest City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Osterman of Pine City, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Brandon Stier; and a daughter-in-law, Laura Fate.
Private family services will be held Friday evening following the visitation with the Rev. Paula Stier officiating. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow from 4 to7 p.m. Friday.
