David Draheim

David A. Draheim, 61, of Forest City, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City due to complications of ALS.
David Allen Draheim was born in Austin on Oct. 3, 1948, the son of Edmund and Gladys (Quandt) Draheim. He received his schooling in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1966.
David continued his education at the University of Minnesota Mankato, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
David taught for a brief time in Wykoff, Minn. before coming to Forest City where he taught Special Education for 28 years. His years of service were recognized when he was inducted into the Forest City Community Schools Hall of Fame in August of 2008. Due to health issues, Dave had to retire early.
David was an active member of the Forest City community. He was a past-president of the Forest City County Club, past-president of the Forest City Education Association and very involved at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed attending local sports events and officiated at high school softball, baseball and volleyball games. He was an avid reader, liked to go fishing and bowling, enjoyed time outside playing golf and was always up for a motorcycle ride.
David is survived by his brothers and their spouses: Edmund (Jane) Draheim of Owatonna, Minn. and Charles (Peggy) Draheim of Madison Lake, Minn.; and six nieces and nephews and many friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Richard.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City and continues an hour prior to service at the church.
David wanted any memorials given in his name to go to Forest City High School Dollars for Scholars or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Petersen Lund Funeral Home of  Forest City, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
