AHS to present holiday concert Dec. 14

Austin High School’s Music Department presents their biggest concert of the season Monday night.
The AHS Band, Orchestra and Choir present their collaborative Holiday Concert at 7 p.m. in Knowlton Auditorium tomorrow.
“As soon as we finished the fall concert, we started practicing for this one,” band director Brad Anderson said.
“It is our most popular concert, and it’s going to be great this year.”
On the band’s play-list is “Rhapsody for Chanukah” and the holiday classic “Sleigh Ride.”
The orchestra plays a seasonal favorite “Carol of the Bells” among other numbers.
Well-known songs to be sung by the choir include “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and “On a Winter’s Night.”
All of the musical groups come together — about 475 students — in the finale for an ensemble performance of “Messiah.”
Gene Schott is the AHS Orchestra director. Brian Johnson is the AHS Choir director.
This is the only public performance of the Holiday Concert.
The Music Department presents parts of the program again on Dec. 23 for AHS students.
The concert is scheduled to last about two hours.
Tickets are $4 for students and senior citizens, and $6 for adults.
