LETTER: Sumner staff, students treated veterans well
Published 6:33 am Friday, November 13, 2009
My husband and I want to thank the students, faculty, dietary and janitorial staff at Sumner School, for the welcome they prepared for the veterans on Veterans Day. Our grandson Isaac invited his grandfather.
The children made wonderful posters and decorations, thanking the heroes that fought and served valiantly for America and other countries.
Many tables were set up and a very delicious breakfast was prepared. Staff and children waited for the veterans to join them.
Both my husband and I remember the thrill and awe — of WWII service men and women, and how much respect and honor was due to them. And how exciting it was to be by them.
Only one veteran showed up. The tables were empty. Disappointment was there.
Please, next year, stop at the schools before you go to other places that are honoring your sacrifice. The day before, call and reserve a place at a table.
