Delmar Ellis

Delmar Dean Ellis, 76, of Austin passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 22, 2009 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin. 

Delmar was born on Oct. 13, 1933 in Lansing County to George and Laura (Akkerman) Ellis. He grew up in rural Austin and joined the Navy where he served his country on the USS Grand Canyon (AD-28), a tender ship for the Sixth Fleet. On Sept. 29, 1956, Delmar married Betty McGowan in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a farmer most of his life and enjoyed going to auctions, and spending time with his family and friends. Delmar was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #91 and VFW Post #1216.

 Survivors include his wife Betty of Austin; five children, Hugh Ellis of Brownsdale, Minn., Glenn (Cynthia) Ellis of Calif., Delmar Jr. (Phyllis) Ellis of Fairmont, Minn., Angela Clennon of Greenville, S.C., and Mischelle (Wayne) Edgar of Austin; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Raymond (Kathy) Ellis of Dexter, Norbert (Judy) Ellis of Sandstone, Minn.,  Mark Ellis of Hinckley, Minn., Betty Jane Walrath of Gainesville, Mo., Carol Brecht of Hinckley, Minn., Rodney (Norma) Ellis of Hinckley, Minn., Paul (Bonnie) Ellis of Austin; special friend, Marilyn Matter of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Duane Ellis; one grandson; brother, Russel Ellis; and one great-granddaughter.

 Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Brian Kruger officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour before the service at church. Interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Austin with Military Rites by American Legion Post #91.
