The Southland football team had its season come to an end in a 15-12 loss at No. 2 Waterville/Elysian/Morristown in a Section 2AA semifinal game Saturday.

The third-seeded Rebels (8-2 overall) led 12-7 throughout most of the second half, but W/E/M took the lead for good on a long passing play with 3:12 to go.

“We dominated in the second half and then we just give it up,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said. “The better team did not win tonight.”

Both of Southland’s scores came on passing plays. Sam Noterman hit Chris May for a 60-yard score on a slant in the first half and he hooked up with Alan May for a 20-yard score on a slant in the second half.

Kennedy said the team will miss its seniors next season.

“It was a great season and it’s a tough way to lose,” he said. “I want to thank all of the seniors.”

The Bucs (9-1 overall) will host No. 4 Triton (8-2 overall) Friday at 7 p.m.
