The Lyle/Pacelli football team had its regular season end with a 14-0 loss at Glenville/Emmons Thursday.

G/E (4-4 overall) made two big plays to get the edge over the Athletics.

In the first quarter, G/E’s Derek Olson had a 33-yard punt return that set up a nine-yard touchdown run by Zach Williams and Williams broke open a 78-yard scoring run in the second half to make it 14-0.

Although they out-gained the Wolverines 205 to 195 yards, L/P turned the ball over five times on the night.

“Our kids played hard, but we’re not good enough to make mistakes,” L/P head coach Mark Buntje said.

The Athletics trailed 8-0 at the end of the first half when they drove to the G/E 10-yard line, but they fumbled the ball away a the five-yard line.

L/P started with the ball at the G/E 15-yard line after recovering a fumble when the game was still scoreless in the first quarter, but two penalties ended that drive.

“We had our chances, but we just couldn’t get anything out of them,” Buntje said.

The Athletics (1-7 overall, 1-6 SEC) enter the section playoffs as an eight-seed and will play at No. 1 Grand Meadow (7-1 overall) Tuesday at 7 p.m.
