The top-seeded LeRoy/Ostrander volleyball team was upset by No. 4 Wabasha/Kellogg (25-5 overall) at Mayo Civic Center in the Subsection 1A title match in Rochester Saturday.
The Cardinals (26-5 overall) won the first game convincingly 25-16, and led the second game early on, but they dropped that one 25-33 and lost the last two 25-21 and 25-16.
L/O head coach Lisa Swenson said her club relied too much on tips and not enough on solid hits as the match slipped away.
“We dominated that first game, but then we got a little timid after the second game,” Swenson said. “I think we played afraid and played not to lose. That’s what happens when you stop having fun.”
Kaylee Bunne had 12 kills, four aces and 10 digs for L/O, Mac Bunne had 23 assists, 12 digs, and two aces, Rachel Rosedahl had five kills, one ace and 22 digs, and Kylie Grant had five aces and 26 digs.
L/O graduates five seniors who have been a big part of the program.
“I feel so blessed to have had these girls, they work hard and they’re a very athletic group,” Swenson said.
