The Pacelli girls tennis team fell to top-seeded Rochester Lourdes 7-0 in the Section 1A tournament Wednesday.
The eighth-seeded Shamrocks got their best effort from previously unbeaten No. 1 singles player Lisa Johnen, who lost 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 to Lourdes No. 1 player Courtney Rust, who was also unbeaten on the season.
The win will likely give Rust the top seed in the individual tournament, which starts Tuesday, Oct. 13 in Rochester.
“Lisa was a little disappointed with the way she played, but take nothing away from how Courtney played,” Pacelli head coach Mark Henderson said. “She was awesome today. There is a chance these two could meet again in individual section play. If that happens I will be looking for the best seat in the house. It would be a treat to see them play again.”
Pacelli was without Steph Kocer and Selgin Young and they had to forfeit the No. 4 singles match.
“Lourdes showed us today why they are the team to beat every year,” Henderson said. “Their players do a great job, and they are well coached. We were competitive in several of the matches, but we couldn’t quite get over the hump to pull any of them out.”
The Pacelli girls will enter two singles players and two doubles teams in the individual section 1A tournament.
