Mabel Kittleson

Mabel Adelaide Kittelson, 93, of Austin died Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.

She was born Oct. 22, 1916 to John and Gertrude (Johnson) Shaw in Adams, Minn. where she grew up and attended school. After graduation from Adams High School in 1934, Mabel completed business school before going to work for First National Bank in Austin as a bank teller for 10 years.

She married Edward Kittelson on Jan. 12, 1944 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams.

They made their home in Austin where they were members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Mabel volunteered in the Craft Room at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing, making clothes for her children.

Survivors include her husband, Edward of Austin; two daughters, Marie (Douglas) Clarke of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada and Helen Stoltenburg of Cottage Grove; one son, Dean Kittelson of Spring Valley; five grandchildren, Andrew (Allison) Clarke, Allison Clarke, Jeff (Julie) Stoltenburg, Jill (Charlie) Appel and Laura (Joseph) Schmidt; two great-grandchildren, Jack Stoltenburg and Madeline Appel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and John Shaw; one sister; one brother; a grandson, Eric Stoltenburg and a son-in-law, John Stoltenburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Visitation is at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers are Andrew Clarke, Charlie Appel, Joe Schmidt, Jeff Stoltenburg, Scott Basness and Jon Shaw.
