Lowell Haukom

Lowell Lauritz Haukom, age 74, of Austin died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at his home in Austin.

He was born June 20, 1935 in Hayfield, Minn. to Elmer and Helen (DeVrieze) Haukom. Lowell graduated from Hayfield High School. Lowell married Margaret Jensen on June 4, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield. Lowell worked for Phillips 66 as a truck driver delivering fuel to gas stations. In his retirement, he drove the Senior Citizen Bus, the Heartland Bus, and School Bus. Lowell was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving on the stewardship committee, mowing the church lawn and often helped to fold the church bulletins. In his spare time, Lowell liked to work on his cars, and loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.

Lowell is survived by his wife Margaret Haukom, Austin; children, Patricia Sorenson, Coon Rapids, Minn., Jean (Dan) Campbell, Loyal, Wis., Jeffrey (Pam) Haukom, Marshall, Minn., Jay (Pete) Haukom, Minneapolis; grandchildren, Aaron, Amy, Joshua, April, Melissa, Rachael, Nick, Kirsten, Nathan, Craig, Brent, Max and their families; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Morgan, Lane, Logan, and Adam Lowell; brother and sisters, Evelyn Anderson, Burnsville, Minn., twin Sister, Lois (Dick) Peterson, Bloomington, Minn., Mary Lee, Springfield, Mo., Judy (John) Saboe, Coon Rapids, Minn., James (Darlene) Haukom, Austin; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Interment will be in Hayfield Cemetery in Hayfield. Visitation will be at Grace Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Honorary Bearers will be the grandchildren.

The family prefers memorials to Grace Lutheran Church.
