Lloyd Francis Steinbrink, 82, of Austin, passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, 2009 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Lloyd was born on Aug. 17, 1927 in Wilton, Wis., the son of Francis William and Gertrude Irene (Grant) Steinbrink. He attended grade school in Kendall, Wis. After moving to Minnesota, he attended Austin Public Schools.

In 1945, Lloyd was drafted in the Army/Air Force as a weatherman/astronomer. After an honorable discharge, he joined the George A. Hormel family. In 1980 he retired after 33 years. On Aug. 25, 1948, Lloyd married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Margaret Stephoni, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, Minn.

Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, playing sports, carpentry and helping others. He always looked forward to the harvest season and helping his son-in-law on the farm. He was a sponsor for many years with RCIA (Right of Christian Initiation of Adults).

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty; children, Diane Patterson (Roger), Daryl (Jeanne), Duane (Marvel) and Debra Getchell (Donnie); his mother, Gertrude; sisters, Urma Norland (Roy) and Pat Flanders; brother, Robert (Joanne); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Delores and Lloyd Theobald, Janet and John Stellpflug; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Timmy John; a grandson, Craig Allen; and his father, Francis William.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service with reflections on Friday evening at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Lloyd’s grandsons will be the casket bearers: Chris Patterson, Terry Patterson, Troy Steinbrink, Dustin Steinbrink, Adam Steinbrink, Cody Steinbrink, Corey Owen and Nick Owen.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Calvary Cemetery or the American Cancer Society
