James Lund, Sr.

James K. R. Lund, Sr., 70, of Austin died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family in his home.

He was born April 15, 1939, in Austin, the son of Henry K. and Alma P. (Cooper) Lund. He attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1957. He joined the United States Navy and traveled to many destinations while serving his country. After his discharge, Jim returned to Austin where he worked at Hormel Foods Corporation from June 16, 1967 until Aug. 20, 2000. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
He loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays and summer time cookouts. Jim enjoyed traveling to Colorado, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He also enjoyed fishing and watching football.

Survivors include his special friend, Carol King of Austin; children, Dena (David) Simpson of Philadelphia, Pa., James (Christy) Lund, Jr. of Austin, and Stacie (Mark) Kalvoda of West Fargo, N.D.; six grandchildren, Marissa, James and Nicole Lund and Matthew, Amber and Janelle Kalvoda; other special friends include, Keith, Kyle and Kelden King and their families; brothers and sisters, ElVeda Lund of Centennial, Colo., Ivan (Denni) Lund of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Jeanne Burke and Gary (Blythe) Lund all of Littleton, Colo.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be missed dearly by his family and all who loved him and his spirit will live on.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett, officiating. Interment will follow the service in Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #91. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23 at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
