Hormel Foods launched its redesigned recipe Web site Monday with new options to help the company’s customers.

“These updates continue the tradition by showing the multitude of options that consumers have when they choose to use Spam products,” said Julie Craven, vice president of corporate communications at Hormel Foods.

The site, www.hormelrecipes.com, has recipes for the company’s brands like Spam, Jennie-O Turkey and Valley Fresh.

“We are excited about the new features and functionality of our redesigned recipe Web site,” Craven said. “Throughout the Web site, we have incorporated helpful tips to help our users with every aspect of preparing meals.”

The Web site will incorporate some new features, including gluten-free recipes. Craven said many people with such diets have contacted Hormel’s consumer response team and the company could be open to other such diets should the need arise.

The Web site will also feature budget-friendly recipes, which was an idea from Joan Hanson, Hormel test kitchen director, to meet the needs of families, especially during a recession.

“Consumers want it all, convenience and health and wellness,” Craven said.

Recipes will now feature ratings determined by the public on a five-star scale. This gives visitors to the site the chance to show which recipes they like and don’t like.

“The benefit to the visitor is that they get to express their opinions, but they get to see which recipes other visitors liked, which helps people decide what to make for dinner,” Craven said.

Aside from finding the right priced meal, the new recipe calculator will allow people to determine the serving size of the recipes they cook.

Part of the benefit of the new recipe features is to introduce customers to new Hormel products and new ways to prepare them, but Craven said the main focus of the company is to continue to provide customers with more options.

“We hope new and experienced chefs enjoy searching through the thousands of available recipes,” Craven said. “To make every mealtime easy and fun, we have added meal planning and shopping advice tips and how-to videos on a variety of essential kitchen skills.”
