Harold Jack Gilbert

Harold Jack (Bob) Gilbert, 80, of Austin died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at Austin Medical Center in Austin.

He was born Dec. 30, 1928 in Buffalo Center, Iowa to Harvey and Bertha (Olson) Gilbert. Harold graduated from high school in Buffalo Center. He served in both the US Army and Navy and was married to Lorraine Boettcher on Sept. 25, 1951 in Elmore, Minn. Bob was employed by the Hormel Foods Corporation in management at both the Austin and Knoxville, Iowa plants, specializing in Dry Sausage production.

He was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Bob was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program and a member of a local bowling league. He also enjoyed fishing.

Harold is survived by his wife, Lorraine Gilbert, Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Susan Gilbert, Santa Clarita, Calif.; daughter, Connie Gilbert, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; grandson and wife, Robert J. and Elena Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Santino and Marianna Gilbert; brothers, Dean Gilbert, Crossville, Tenn., Larry Gilbert, Stewartville, Minn.; sisters: Virginia Althoff, Buffalo Center, Iowa, Delores Griffon, Buffalo Center, Iowa, Mary Lou John, Spirit Lake, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2103 Eighth St. SW, with Pastor David Fleischmann officiating. A private family interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Elmore, Minn.
