Giles Motzko

Giles Bert Motzko, 77, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 peacefully at his home in Brownsdale, Minn.

Giles Bert Motzko was born on Jan. 31, 1932, the son of Stanly and Mary (Classman) Motzko on a farm in Long Prairie, Minn. He graduated from Browerville High School in 1949, and from Staples Teachers Training in 1951, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He graduated from Minneapolis Business College in 1959. Giles was employed in banking, insurance and auto sales since 1959. He retired in 2006.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and woodworking. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, the church choir and the American Legion Chorus. Giles was married to Beverly Joarnt from 1957-1981. He married Joyce Maas in 1984.

Giles is survived by his wife, Joyce; two brothers, Jim and Roy; five sisters, Edna, Octiva, Beatrice, Jeannette and Inez; children, Robert, Mary, William, David; step-children, Marie, Mike, Matthew, Marion, and Mark; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ellen; son, Jerome; and brother Norbert.

A funeral service for Giles Bert Motzko will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, West Main Street in Brownsdale with the Rev. Dale Tupper officiating. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minn. at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 302 Market St. SE in Brownsdale with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. There will be visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church Monday.
