Gail Gabrielson

Gail Etma Gabrielson, 87, of Austin died Sunday morning, Oct. 18, 2009, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow.

She was born Feb. 28, 1922 to John T. and Emilie (Arndtson) Flatgard in Jackson, Minn. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Windom, Gail moved to Austin in 1937 to complete her education and to work at Hormel Foods. Living with her brother, she graduated from Austin High School in 1939. She married Carl Harold Gabrielson on Nov. 23, 1946 in Grand Meadow. They made their home in Austin for their entire married life. Carl died on July 17, 1993. A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and WELCA, she taught Sunday School and enjoyed handwork, flowers and gardening, cooking and canning.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Bonnell of Grandview, Wash.; a son, Daryl (Carol) Gabrielson of Ham Lake; six grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Cadieux of Houston, Texas, David (Terry) Pouliot of Salem, Ore., Renee (Chris) Hopkins of Bothel, Wash., Anna Gabrielson of Ham Lake, Dena (Chris) Bucksa of St. Paul, Bryan (Jessica) Gabrielson of Anoka; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Evans of Hemet, Calif.

Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; eight brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
