Elsabeth Frances (Grey) “Betty” Wescott passed away peacefully at her home in Minnetonka, Minn. on Oct. 4.
She was born to Dr. William A. and Etta M. Grey of St. Paul.

Betty graduated from the University of Minnesota where she served as president of Mortar Board and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. A long-time resident of Austin, Betty taught math and science before becoming an active volunteer and fundraiser for the American Red Cross, YWCA, PTA, Girl Scouts, First Congregational Church and the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Betty was an advocate for women’s education, managed a scholarship fund for Austin High School students, was a founding member of the Board of the Austin High School Alumni and Friends Association and a member of Chapter AH, PEO Sisterhood. Betty enjoyed playing bridge, reading and was an avid fan of the Vikings and the Twins.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray M. Wescott.
She is survived by daughters, Anne (Thomas) Zitnak of Lino Lakes and Jane (David) Olson of Minnetonka; grandchildren, David (Diane) Zitnak, Douglas (Lana Marie) Zitnak and Julie (Michael) Connolly; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Kali Zitnak and Kieran and Shea Connolly; and many loving friends and relatives.

We are grateful to Dr. Benjamin Pease, Dr. Mary Kwon and the staffs of Ridge Pointe, Home Instead, LivHome and Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice for their loving care.

A celebration of Betty’s life will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday Oct. 12 at Ridge Pointe, 12800 Marion Lane W., Minnetonka. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1910 Third Ave. N.W.

Memorials are preferred to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, the Austin High School Alumni and Friends Association or the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Austin.
