EDITORIAL: We’re off to a good start at Todd Park

It’s going to take time, but we’re headed in the right direction.

This week, trees were replanted at Todd Park after a tornado stormed the region June 17.

Trees were donated by the Austin police and fire departments, which raised $4,000 during a softball tournament, Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial and Berg’s Nursery.

Mayor Tom Stiehm and parks and rec director Kim Underwood were on hand Wednesday to watch some of the replanting.

Residents from outside the area, including the New Ulm Girls Fastpitch Softball Association, have also donated trees as well.

It will take a long time to get Todd Park back into the shape it was prior to June 17.

But we’re off to a good start, and if we continue to work together as a community in this effort, we’ll see the hard work pay off at one of Austin’s most scenic locations.
