Brian J. Young, 62, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2009 at his home in Austin.

He was born March 6, 1947 in Austin to Carl R. and Mildred M. (Slupe) Young.

Brian was a special friend to many in the Austin community. He was an active member at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Arc. He worked for Cedar Valley Services.

Brian will always be remembered for his infectious smile, his hugs and the fact that everyone was his friend. He touched many lives and brought joy to those who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his sisters, Marilyn (Warren) Bateman, Miami, Fla., Susan (Harold) Helleck and Lynn Norman, Rochester; sister-in-law, Esther Young, Lake City, Minn.; and special friends, Mary Reisnour and Phil Bernatz, Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger.

A special thanks to the Austin community for the kindness and friendship that they have shown. Also to McDonald’s, his caretakers and to Heartland Seasons Hospice, who always made Brian happy. Also thank you to Mayer Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at Mayer Funeral Home with the Rev. Kristi Koppel officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Arc Mower County.
