Blossoms upset No. 3 seeded Bucs

The Blooming Prairie volleyball team knocked off third-seeded Waterville/Elysian/Morristown in Subsection 1A tournament play on the road Thursday.

The sixth seeded Awesome Blossoms (12-16 overall) won by scores of 25-23, 18-25, 12-25, 25-23, 15-10.

“In game four our team decided to dig a little deeper and make this season last,” BP head coach Gina McLaughlin said.

BP led 23-22 in the fourth game and Rachel Klemmensen served the last two points to seal it.

BP fell behind early 5-1 in the deciding game, but they bounced back to take it.” It was almost as if the girls made a conscious and collective decision to make sure this season lasted,” BP head coach Gina McLaughlin said. “I saw the girls make plays tonight that I have never seen before this season. This is as focused as I have ever seen them play.”

BP, which will play No. 2 Hayfield at Mayo Civic Center Saturday at 4:30 p.m. racked up 20 blocks on the night.

Marie Morem had 12 kills and seven blocks for BP, Jordan Noble had 31 assists and nine digs, Whitney Burt had 12 kills, 11 digs and three blocks, Trisha Roeker had eight kills and 16 digs, Kristin Hagen had seven kills, six blocks, and 11 digs, Yasmine Smith had three blocks, and Erin Johnson had 14 digs and three aces.
