AHS celebrates homecoming this week

Austin High School is celebrating homecoming week with a vow to “Foil the Falcons” on Friday night.

The 3-2 Packers take on Faribault at 7 p.m. at Wescott Athletic Complex. A homecoming dance will follow the football game in Hastings Gym from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m.

There will also be a pep fest at 2:30 p.m. in Packer Gym and a parade at 3:30 p.m. It will begin at the high school and travel downtown to Wescott Field. The dress-up theme for Friday is Red and White Day.

The homecoming king and queen will be crowned at 2 p.m. today in Knowlton Auditorium.

King candidates include Jerrad Ryks, Ben Bachmeier, Tim Erickson, Mitch Morem and Connor Gunderson. Queen candidates are Megan Wuertz, Kelsey Fleming, Whitney Heiny, Sam Brucker and Rachel Donovan.

Senior emcees are Chris Folken, Meg Brucker and Amy Tweet. The Austinaires will also perform “Up on the Roof” by James Taylor and the AHS Choir will sing “Austin High Gives Hail to Thee.”

Senior football captains will administer the oath to the new king and queen, and a short video with pictures of the candidates will be shown. Today is also Dress-Up Day.

On Thursday, the Distinguished Alumni Assembly and Battle of Connects will begin at noon. The National Honor Society, Student Council and members of the Chemical Health Awareness Initiative will weigh-in their donated food items at noon in the commons for a collection drive.

The boys’ soccer team will take on Albert Lea at 7 p.m. at Haas Stadium. A bonfire will follow at 8:30 p.m. at Marcusen Park. Thursday is Class Color Day (freshman, orange; sophomores, green; juniors, blue; and seniors, black).
