A.D. (Andy) Andrew

A.D. (Andy) Andrew of Spring Valley, Minn. died Oct. 3rd, 2009 at his home, surrounded by loved ones, after a three year battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 2, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo. At the age of 17 he joined the army. He attended basic training at Fort Riley, Kan. followed by Ordnance School in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. Andy was stationed in Baumbholder, Germany for two years as a member of the 8th division and was discharged SPEC 4 in August of 1962.

He worked for Railway Express in St. Louis until 1971 when he moved to Grand Meadow, Minn. and began working for Interstate Truck in Rochester, Minn. In 1973 he worked as a foreman for Minnesota Implement in Grand Meadow, Minn. until 1981 when he began his own company. Until his death he owned and operated Ag Electrical Specialists in Racine, Minn. and Andy’s Electrical Service in Grand Meadow.

Andy also served two terms (1972-1976) as mayor of Grand Meadow. He was a long standing member of the American Legion Post # 140 and was a member of the Valley Christian Center in Spring Valley.
He was preceded in death by his mother Izola (Barnes) Wohlers.

Survivors include his wife Linda of Spring Valley; three daughters Joan Andrew of Tampa, Fla., Linda Andrew of Albuquerque, N.M., Deanna (James) MacDuffie of Tijeras, N.M.; step-daughter Lori Buchholtz of Spring Valley; step-son Brian (Phyllis) Sauer of Spring Valley; two grandchildren, Finley and Keira MacDuffie; two step-grandchildren Jordan and Justin Buchholtz; two sisters Connie (Dean) Wisdom of Lenzburg, Ill., Sharon Schlegelmilch of Sarasota, Fla., Henry Rector of Gerald, Mo., Tom (Susan) Rector and Harold (Melody) Rector of Kansas City, Mo., Gerald Rector of McCalister, Okla.

Funeral services for A.D. “Andy” Andrew will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 7, 2009 at the Valley Christian Center in Spring Valley with the Rev. Steve Kuno officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday Oct. 6th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hindt funeral home in Spring Valley. Burial will be in the Sumner Center (Millet) Cemetery Sunner Twp. Fillmore County.
