Verla Thompson

Verla May Thompson, age 79 of Lansing, died Sunday evening, Sept. 20, 2009 at Valleyview Assisted Living in Owatonna.
She was born May 22, 1930 to Ole and Sophie (Nelson) Larson in Mower County. She married Douglas Thompson on June 11, 1950 in Adams, and they made their home in Lansing. Verla was employed by Hormel Foods Corp. for more than 30 years before her retirement. A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale and Ladies Aid, she enjoyed serving others, spending time with her family and traveling all over the United States.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Thompson, of Owatonna; two sons, Gary (Donna) Thompson of OshKosh, Wisconsin; Steven (Cheryl) Thompson of Owatonna; one daughter, Trudy (Timothy) Hanson of Loganville, Georgia; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Curtis (Daisy) Larson, of Austin; Loris (Dorothy) Larson, of Austin; one sister, Ardis Herr, of Faribault; sister-in-law, Myrtle Larson, of Burnsville; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie and Ole Larson; brothers, Nomer, Ober and Otto Larson, and a sister, Shirley Tucker.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with Pastor Jeffery Sage officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. The family prefers memorials to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Brownsdale.
