Those who cannot make it to Munich this year can stop by the Holiday Inn ballroom for the next best thing Friday evening. The sixth annual Octoberfest offers beer tasting, karaoke and games from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

About a dozen tasting tables will offer 30-40 varieties of beer to sample, said Dave Olson, co-sponsor of event and owner of Apollo Liquors and Superette, said. Entertainment includes a DJ, karaoke stage and indoor beanbag games.

Some beers on the lengthy list at Octoberfest include Guinness Stout and Guinness Draft, Harp, Bass Ale, Smithwick’s, Heineken and Heineken Light, Labatt Blue and Labatt Blue Light, Red Stripe, Stella Artois, Horgaarden, Land Shark, Beck’s, Beck’s Dark and Beck’s Octoberfest, American Ale, Shock Top, Bud Light Lime, Bud Light Golden Wheat, Bacardi Sangria, Michelob AmberBock, Blue Moon Harvest and special brews by Summit, Leinenkugel’s, Sam Adam’s and Spaten.

“There will definitely be plenty of microbrews, imports and specialty beers on hand,” Olson said. A Mexican imports table will offer samples of Corona, Corona Light, Tecate, Modelo and Negra Modelo. Another table will have Boulevard Pale Ale, Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat, Boulevard Bobs 47, Schell’s FireBrick, Schell’s Lakemaid and Schell’s Octoberfest.

Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm will be specially featured, Olson said. Twenty-ounce glasses of Schell’s Octoberfest will be available for $2. The first 300 ticket buyers will receive a 12-ounce Octoberfest glass complete with the event’s sponsors names and beer logos.

Tickets are $10 each or $100 for 13, and advance tickets are available at The Apollo. Proceeds benefit the Austin Jaycees. The Holiday Inn ballroom is located at 1701 Fourth St. N.W.
