Pacelli High School has a new weight room thanks to more than $18,000 in donations from an auction last spring.

A donor appreciation celebration will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the new facility.

Teacher Dan Zielke had a group of about 20-25 student who were utilizing the outdated room. He expressed the need for new equipment and for a space that could be used also for sports teams and a summer weights program.

The auctioneer had started bidding at $1,000.

“Paddles were being raised nonstop for over 10 minutes,” director Mary Holtorf said. “I was overwhelmed with emotion by all the people that bid in each category. During this event tears welled up in my eyes (and several other people’s eyes around me) for the overwhelming response to this need and support.”

Electrical installation was also donated that night by Schammel Electric.

A dedication ceremony will be held at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 9. Light refreshments will be served and student guides will be available. The weight room is located at 311 Fourth St. N.W.
