Naida Goergen

Naida Belle Smith Cockrum Goergen, 85, of Austin, died Sept. 3, 2009 at Austin Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 24, 1923 in Little Cedar, Iowa to Roy and Emily (Balsley) Smith. She graduated from high school in Little Cedar and was married to Oliver Cockrum on Nov. 22, 1945. Naida was employed as a cook for the Austin Public Schools and was an active member of the Fellowship United Methodist Church. After Oliver’s death, Naida was married to Herman Goergen on May 1, 1981.
 Naida was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Twins, Timberwolves and all basketball on television. She also enjoyed visiting and talking with her friends on the phone.
 Naida is survived by her children, Juanita (Ash) Hayes, San Marcos, Calif., Rod  Cockrum, Lanesboro, Kelly (Cindy) Cockrum, Sinking Spring, Pa.; grandchildren, Emily Cockrum, Hailey  Cockrum, Nathan Cockrum, Matthew Cockrum, all of Sinking Spring, Pa.; one sister, Beulah Cockrum, Osage, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Oliver Cockrum and Herman Goergen, and a son Ronald.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at Fellowship United Methodist Church, 1811 Seventh Ave. SE, with the Reverend Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment will be in Osage Cemetery in Osage, Iowa at a later date. Friends may greet the family for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the American Heart Association. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
