Friday is official Lions White Cane Day in Austin — the mayor proclaimed it as such.
Members of the Austin Noon Lions Club will be out at various locations Friday accepting donations to use for the Childrens Eye Clinic and Lions Eye Bank to help the sight impaired.
Mayor Thomas Stiehm presented the Lions with an official proclamation Monday from the Office of the Mayor, declaring Oct. 2, 2009 to be Lions White Cane Day.
The mayor’s written proclamation honors the group stating, “Lions International, with over 1,300,000 members in the free world, has been dedicated to serving sight for over 60 years and The Austin Lions has been outstanding in our community in helping the needy with sight problems through the use of its White Cane donations.”
