Jerry Schewe

Jerry R Schewe, age 69, of Oakland, Minn. died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 at Residence in Oakland.
He was born Feb. 7, 1940 in Albert Lea, Minn. to Robert and Ardith (Wittmer) Schewe. Jerry was baptized at the Pickerel Lake Concordia Lutheran Church in rural Albert Lea. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in the class of 1958 and was married to Deloris Cummins on March 11, 1961 at the Oakland Lutheran Church. They lived in Oakland and Jerry was an over-the-road truck driver for 43 years. As an owner operator he leased his truck to the McFarland Truck Lines in Austin and continued driving until about a month ago.
Jerry was a member of the Oakland Lutheran Church, and also a member of the Albert Lea Eagles Aerie No. 2258 and the Albert Lea Moose Club No. 1703. He was also a member of the Albert Lea FFA, the Freeborn County 4-H and served as a 4-H adviser.
He enjoyed several different hobbies including playing golf, bowling, woodworking and gardening.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Schewe and father-in-law Ralph Todd.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Deloris Schewe, Oakland, Minn.; children, Julie (Keven) Maxa, Oakland, Gary (Laurie Read) Schewe, Oakland, Brian Schewe, Shakopee, Minn.; grandchildren, Matt, Becky, Katie and Megan Maxa, Oakland, Tara (Ryan) Wiersma, Austin, Jennie Stolzenberg, Austin; mother Ardith Schewe, Albert Lea, Minn.; brothers, Glenn (Cheryl) Schewe, Austin, David (Diane) Schewe, Hayward, Minn.; sister, Donna (Butch) Newman, Alden, Minn.; mother-in-law Violet Todd, Austin; brother-in-law, Robert Todd, Oakland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at Oakland Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Berthold Officiating. The organist will be Susie Chrz and the soloist will be Jennifer Vickermann. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Oakland, Minn. Visitation will be held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Crossroads Community Hospice, 404 W. Fountain, Albert Lea, MN 56007.
