Inez Schissel

Inez Uglum Schissel, 95, of Adams, Minn., died on Monday, Sept. 21st at the Austin Medical Center, Austin.
Inez Gladys Uglum, daughter of Ane and Iver Uglum, was born on a farm near Grand Meadow, Minn. on July 5, 1914. When she was 6 years old, her family moved to Adams, where Inez spent most of her life.
Inez graduated from Adams High School and also from Winona State University. She taught school for several years in the Austin Public Schools and also at Sacred Heart School in Adams. She thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of teaching and felt blessed to have selected the right vocation.
In 1939, Inez was united in marriage to Conrad Schissel at St. Augustine Church in Austin with Father Griffin officiating. Three children were born to this union: Ann, Bob, and Jean.
Inez had many interests including gardening, reading, golfing, traveling, oil painting, sewing and cards, especially bridge. She was devoted to her husband, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and in-laws. She loved all of them.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, SHCCW, St. Agnes Unit, Adams Health Care Auxiliary, Austin Area Retired Teacher’s Organization and the Cedar River Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad; son-in-law, Ron Lien; parents; two brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by her children, Ann Lien, Rochester, Minn., Bob (Linda) Schissel, Park Rapids, Minn., and Jean (Ben) Norman, Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Beth Schissel, Kris (Patrick) Donnelly, Maren (Paul) Kunkel, Kara Norman (Tom Delaney), Alex Norman (Dorann Richtsmeier), Julie (Brian) O’Connell, Amy Lien (Erik Fritsche), and Jenny Lien (Pat Rothwell); great-grandchildren, Fiona and Nora Donnelly, Tara and Jack O’Connell and Nolan Fritsche.
Friends and relatives are invited to the visitation to be held at the Adams Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 25, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father James Seitz officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
