Ida Usken

Ida Usken, 92, of Colo, Iowa, and formerly of Rose Creek, died Aug. 29, 2009 at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in rural Colo where she had resided the past four years.
She was born Dec. 29, 1916, in Marshall County to Oscar and Borghild (Haugen) Selvig. She was and baptized and confirmed at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.
In 1934, Ida married George Usken at Elim Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Marshall County until moving to their farm in Rose Creek.
Survivors include four children: Berlyn (Bev) Usken, Las Vegas, Betty (Jim) Hartwig, Colo, Gary (Laurie) Usken, Fort Collins, Colo., Roxanne (Norman) Young, Hayfield; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Anderson and Herb Dickkut; four grandsons: Doug Hartwig, Grant Usken, Trevor Usken and Brett Young; granddaughter, Kimberly Young Jorgensen; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Alex Jorgensen; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1978; grandsons Craig in 1979 and Eric Young in infancy; two sisters, Bernice Dickkut and Thelma Anderson; and two brothers, Lester and Milo Selvigand.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. Ida will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery.
