Helen Elizabeth Florek, age 102, of Austin, died Sunday evening, Sept. 27, 2009 at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.
She was born Oct. 9, 1906 to Elvin “Bud” and Maggie (Baldwin) Shoemaker in Kimball, Minn. Helen attended school in Rose Creek. She married Stanley Florek on Oct. 21, 1928 in Austin where they made their home. She started the Bunco Club in 1940 in which she was active until her death. She also liked bingo, card games and gardening.
Stanley passed away on Nov. 30, 1968. Helen was one of the original residents of the Twin Towers.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Lenoch, of Austin, Helen Radimecky, of Austin; six grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley; brothers, Dale and Alvin Shoemaker; sister, Gertrude Johnson; two nephews, Cory Shoemaker and Leonard Johnson; son-in-law, Clifford Lenoch.
