George Wollenburg

George A. Wollenburg, 86, of Brownsdale, passed away on Aug. 28, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin. George was born on July 25, 1923 in Austin to George P. and Pauline (Malchow) Wollenburg. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham.
He grew up on a farm just north of Brownsdale and lived there all his life where he farmed and occasionally drove trucks on the side. George married Marilyn Juhnke on Sept. 27, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham, where they attended church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; five children: Steven Wollenburg, Brownsdale, Jane (Pastor Jim) Nihiser, Traverse City, Mich., Linda (Brian) Wellik, Rochester, Mary (Jeffrey) Duehlmeyer, Des Moines, Iowa, Mark Wollenburg, Brownsdale; eight grandchildren: Leslie Gronbach, Michael Gronbach, Chelsea Wellik, Kyrie Wellik, Joydyn Wellik, Joseph Duehlmeyer, Caley Duehlmeyer, Jacob Duehlmeyer; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Mathison and Lydia Faulhaber; two stepgrandchildren, Aaron (Beth) Nihiser and Emily (Ryan) Spica; one stepgreat-grandchild, Carson Spica.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Eugene. 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with Pastor Jeffrey Sage officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at the Trinity Cemetery near Waltham. Memorials to donor’s choice.
