Dorothy Berg

Dorothy Ann Berg, age 78 of Lyle, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at home lovingly surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born Dec. 25, 1930 in Mower County to Edward and Mary (VanHyfte) DeVriendt. On Sept. 13, 1950 she was united in marriage to Charles Berg at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.
Dorothy will always be remembered for her delicious cookies, pies and homemade bread. She loved her daily life of keeping house and taking care of others. We’ll never forget her smiling face, warm hugs and “wise” remarks. Dorothy was a domestic engineer.
Her heart may have failed her, but it certainly didn’t fail us. We thank God for the gift of Dorothy.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Berg, Lyle; children, Barbara (Lowell) Crabb, Kingsley, Iowa, Betty (Gary) Meyer, Lyle, James (Taylor) Berg, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Patricia (Mark) Stevens, Austin, Polly (James) Allen, Bruno, Joan (Jeff) Yocom, Austin; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Vincent (Emily) DeVriendt, Austin, Ronald DeVriendt, Fridley; half sister, Diane (Robert) Sufka, Royalton; half brother, Larry (Connie) DeVriendt, Royalton.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Jeanette DeVriendt; half brother, Edward DeVriendt; nephew, Daniel DeVriendt.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept., 30, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Lyle with Father James Seitz officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. rosary on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to7 p.m. Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearer will be Cheston King. The casket bearers will be Aaron Crabb, Tim Crabb, Chans Meyer, Brock Meyer, Quinn Yocom and Jesse Johnson.
Memorials are preferred to the Lyle Area Cancer Auction or Austin Medical Center Hospice.
