Bernard Olson

Bernard Dewey Olson, 89, of Austin died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.
He was born December 18, 1919 in Rochester to Victor and Nona (Boege) Olson. Bernard graduated from Rochester High School in the class of 1937. He was employed at the Kahler Hotel and worked at the shipyard in Bremerton, WA.
He was married to Judith Melvina Lee on October 8, 1941 at the Olson family home in Rochester. They lived in Austin where Bernard worked for the Hormel Foods Corporation from 1945 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Moose Club.
Bernard enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and an occasional gambling junket. He enjoyed driving his Model A and appeared in several area parades.
Bernard was preceded in death by his Wife Judith in 2007, sons, Terry and Roger Olson and a sister Mary Huinker.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, Austin, with The Reverend Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Bernard is survived by his son: Dennis Olson, Austin, MN; daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Wade Nelson, Austin, MN; daughters-in-laws: Janet Olson, Rochester, MN, Carol Ashton Olson, Pima, AZ; Seven Grandchildren; Eight Great Grandchildren
