At his home in northwest Austin, it’s easy to spot 3-year-old Gahvin Schaefer’s room.

It’s the one with the fire truck pillow and the matching comforter.

The youngster, who likes everything with sirens, celebrated his third birthday Saturday, which included lots of fire truck toys, a fire truck cake and a surprise visit by the Austin Fire Department, which brought, well, a fire truck.

“I called (Fire Chief) Dan Wilson, and he offered to have the party at the station or to come to us,” said Danielle Schaefer, Gahvin’s mother.

Wilson and company came to the home of Danielle and her husband Troy to pay Gahvin a visit Saturday afternoon, and they did so with fire truck lights and sirens.

“I’m 10, and I even thought it was cool,” said Emilee Falch, Gahvin’s sister.

Chief Wilson didn’t leave the home without first leaving a smoke alarm, which the residence didn’t have on its first floor.

Danielle Schaefer said the home was recently purchased in March.

Wilson said his visit was one part education and one part helping Gahvin have a happy birthday.

“If we’re going to make a difference in the community and prevent fires, we have to get the message out,” Wilson said. ‘If I could do this every day I would.”
