Pastor Paul Floyd Brown, 60
Bivocational Pastor

Pastor Paul Floyd Brown, 60, of Austin, died on Aug. 9, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born Aug. 29, 1948 in Taylorville, Ill. to Paul and Carmen (Floyd) Brown. He graduated from the Taylorville High School and Purdue University in 1970 with a BS degree in Industrial Management. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 until 1973. Paul was married to Carol Jean Heck on June 17, 1972. After his army service, Paul began working for the El Paso Natural Gas Co. In 1978 he recommitted his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and felt called by God to serve him fully. He received a masters of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983 and came to Austin in 1984 as a church pastor in Austin and Albert Lea. Paul was a bivocational pastor, pastoring the Austin Baptist Chapel until his death and working for the U.S. Postal Service. A true commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ was his goal for himself and for others. He lived for the Lord in sincerity and lived his life with integrity. His goal was to lead others to a true, vibrant, obedient and loving relationship with the Lord. He wanted to be used by God to help develop true disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, and not just disciples in name only. He wanted people to realize that, though we are living in this world, a true disciple is a citizen of Heaven and as we focus on Jesus, he will empower us to respond to the things, the situations, the problems of this world in a way that glorifies our Father in Heaven.
Paul was a sports fan and particularly loved baseball, especially the statistics, and auto racing. He actually got to drive a NASCAR racing car this spring, but his real love was Jesus and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Micah Sterling Perez.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean Brown, Austin; daughters and their families: Michelle (Joe)  DeClue, Joseph, Kyle, Bethanie, Mitchel and Adinah, Austin; Jennifer (Ruben) Perez, Hannah, Gideon and Timothy, Austin; Cheryl (Jeff)  Folz, Clara and Sylvia, Evansville, Ill.;  Kimberly  Brown, Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Robert Ray officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and for one hour before the service on Thursday. The family prefers memorials to the Austin Baptist Chapel or to Neuroendocrine Carcinoma research.
Honorary Bearers will be Mitchel DeClue and Gideon Perez. Casket Bearers will be Ruben Perez, Joe DeClue, Joseph DeClue, Jeff Folz, Mark Aase and Caleb Rhodes.
