St. John’s Lutheran Church will install a new pastor Aug. 9.
The Rev. Thomas G. Ogilvie will be installed by his father-in-law and circuit counselor, the Rev. Robert Bailey, in a special installation service at 3 p.m. Ogilvie answered the call to serve as a pastor in Austin.
He is a 1995 graduate of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and has served congregations in Gregory, S.D., Cedar Falls, Iowa, and most recently in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Ogilvie comes to town with his wife, Rebecca, and five children: Sydney, 14; Samuel, 13; Frederic, 10; Frannie, 4; and Frank, 18 months. Rebecca has degrees in music, and the three older children are also following the family tradition by becoming musicians.
The congregation will be celebrating the event with a grocery shower.
St. John’s celebrated its centennial in 2008 and is a member of the Missouri Synod. The Sunday morning service is radio broadcast on 1480 AM each Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Rev. Robert Stohlmann has served as the vacancy pastor.
