Lorraine Groos, 89
Lorraine Groos, 89, of Albert Lea, went to her heavenly home on Aug. 17, 2009.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1919 in Gowrie, Iowa the youngest of six children born to Irene (Morlan) and Roy Potter. The family moved to Austin in 1922. She graduated from Austin High School in 1936. On Nov. 28, 1939, she was united in marriage to Wilbur (Wib) Groos in Austin. Their oldest son Jim was born in Rochester. In 1946, after Wilbur’s service time in World War II, they moved to Albert Lea, where John and Jody were born.
Lorraine was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years where she taught Sunday school and Bible school, served as a visiting deacon and was active in her circle and Presbyterian Women. She also volunteered at Good Samaritan. She had made her home at Thorne Crest Retirement Center for the past few years where she volunteered. She cherished her many friendships there.
Lorraine truly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her happiest times were spent with them. Lorraine loved to dance, play bridge and followed sports especially the Minnesota Gophers, Vikings and Twins. Her family, faith, community and patriotism were all important aspects of her life.
Lorraine will be lovingly missed by her family: two sons James (JoAnne) Groos, St. Charles, Mo., John (Jane) Groos, Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughter, Jody (Brian) Graves, Waukesha, Wis.; grandchildren, Dan Groos (Tina Oliver) and her son, Brandon, St. Charles, Mo., Julie (Chris) VanTassel and their son, Makaio, Dallas, Texas, Brent (Heather) Groos and their sons, Gavin and Griffin, Sioux Falls, S.D., Brian (Suzi) Groos and their children Kyrsten, Talyn and Bradyn, Aurora, Colo., Andrew, John, Natalie and Eva Graves all of Waukesha, Wis. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and four sisters.
The memorial service for Lorraine Groos, of Albert Lea will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. Visitation is at 1 p.m. at the church. The reverend Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials can be directed to the First Presbyterian Church.
