LETTER: Humbled by generosity

Published 9:57 am Thursday, August 20, 2009

Once again, The Hormel Institute is humbled and honored by our community’s great show of support and faith in our cancer research.

The 12th Annual Karl Tourney provided $40,000 in research funding for The Hormel Institute, all dedicated to Wilms Tumor research, the cancer that took the young life of Dr. Kurt and Brenda Potach’s beloved son Karl.

It is an honor for The Hormel Institute to be the recipient of these funds that come from the Potach’s wonderful network of family and friends.

Our Austin community shows its greatness consistently and we are so proud and so thankful to be honored by each of you who gave.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Potach family, Lance and Snow Pogones, Tim Duren, John Chaffee and the many, many generous volunteers, hole sponsors and all who generously gave auction items and those who purchased them.

We’d also like to thank our “anonymous donor” who inspired an additional $15,000 gift to The Hormel Institute by first pledging $7500 if it could be matched — and it quickly was.

On behalf of all of the faculty and staff of The Hormel Institute, please know your support is truly uplifting and encouraging.

Our gratitude can only be reflected in our continued diligence in research leading to the prevention and control of cancer.

Zigang Dong, M.D., Dr. P.H.
