A 59-year-old rural LeRoy woman died Monday afternoon in a farm accident in Section 35 of Beaver Township, according to reports from the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office.
Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen said that preliminary indications are that a tractor driven by Jane Souhrada may have started on fire, forcing Souhrada to get off the tractor. Jensen said it appears that she became entangled in the mower attachment and died instantly.
Jensen said a family member discovered a tractor burning on the edge of a field that Souhrada had been mowing and added that Souhrada’s body was found a short distance from the tractor.
LeRoy Ambulance and the Chester Fire Department were dispatched to the scene, and Souhrada was pronounced dead shortly after crews arrived.
The accident remains under investigation by the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office with assistance by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The accident was discovered shortly after noon on Monday.
Beaver Township is located in southwestern Fillmore County.
