Iola Harrington, 87, formerly of LeRoy and Grand Meadow died at Spring Valley Senior Living where she had been for one day.
Iola Shirley Harrington was born July 11, 1922 in Corning, Minn. to Sanford Carlson and Ida Williamson Carlson. She attended school through the eighth grade and was united in marriage to Everett E. Harrington on Sept. 21, 1940 in Osage, Iowa., and together they farmed in Beaver Township. Iola was also a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting animals, table cloths, doilies and many other items. She liked doing word search puzzles and watching “Wheel of Fortune” and the Minnesota Twins. She also enjoyed fishing, camping traveling and her La-Z-Boy recliner.
She is survived by her six children: Barb (Loren) Berge, Osage, Iowa, Dick (Sandra) Harrington, Charles City, Iowa, Bob (Pat) Harrington, LeRoy, Minn., Eileen (Roger E.) Tienter, Grand Meadow, Minn., Bonnie (Glen) McKenna, Chester, Iowa and Randy (Debbie ) Harrington, Rochester, Minn.; 26 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Lorna Stern, Rockford, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lois Carlson, Rochester, Minn.; brother-in-law, Butch Mayzlik, Austin, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 2, 1978; a granddaughter, Lori; great-grandson, Andy; three brothers, Polly, Sally and Roger and two sisters, Ruth and Donna Mae.
Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2009 at the LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Thomas Kolden officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery Beaver Township Fillmore County.
