While there are many ways to stay in shape in the Fall, what better way then to get out and play some flag football?

The Hayfield flag football league is entering it’s second year and it is looking for players (men or women) who are 18 years or older.

“Both teams and individuals are welcome, individuals will be assigned with an existing team that is not yet full,” League founder Andrew Lica said. “We have players young and old and it is competitive but still a lot of fun.”

The league plays its games Saturday afternoons and evenings under the lights at Hayfield City Park. Each team will have seven players on the field, with offensive and defensive lines. The games start Aug. 22 and Oct. 31 and there will be an eight-game regular season with at least two playoff games. Games last about an hour long.

“We have a great bunch of men and women who play for the league and make it a great time,” Lica said.

The sign-up deadline is Aug. 19, and Lica can be contacted at 507-440-88372 or hay_bpflagfootball@yahoo.com.

Each team will have a 10-player roster and it can have four players who are on reserve as part time or replacement players.

Last season, the league had six teams with six to eight players on each squad. Lica started it for a fun way to spend his weekends.

”I decided to start the league last year because I was looking for something fun and athletic to do with my free time on the weekends and I thought that others felt the same as I did,” he said. “It is a great way to stay in shape, have fun, and meet new people. We are growing rapidly this year and are hoping for a full compliment of teams.”

The league is currently looking for referees with a general knowledge of football rules and procedures.

The cost to play in the league is $25, this cost will help pay for team shirts, equipment, field rental and lights, referee wages and end of season prizes.
