We hate to break it to you, but summer is almost over. Gone are the small-town festivals, the Mower County Fair and our local Fourth of July celebrations.

That doesn’t mean the weekends will be empty for here on out, though.

On Aug. 30, the first-ever Arts in the Park event featuring music, performing and visual arts and crafts will be held at Bandshell Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The occasion is the brainchild of Sue Radloff, Karen Sundal, the Austin Area Arts Center and the Austin Community Arts in the Park Committee.

The event also received an Honorable Mention in the 25th Anniversary Minnesota Community Pride Competition Showcase.

These types of events can be a way of bringing the community together and a way of spending a Sunday in Mower County.
