Delbert Hanson

Delbert James Hanson, 83, of Austin died Friday, July 31, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.
He was born Oct. 3, 1925 in Freeborn County to Harold and Emma (Paulson) Hanson.
Delbert married Lorraine Ferguson on Sept. 17, 1955 at the First United Methodist Church in Austin.  Delbert served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.  After the war he worked at the Geo. A. Hormel Co. until he retired. 
Delbert was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the American Legion and volunteered his time with the Red Cross and the Austin Medical Center.  In his spare time, Delbert enjoyed fishing and hunting for grouse and traveling with his wife.  Delbert and Lorraine moved to Tucson, Ariz. for nine years.  He particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 
Delbert is survived by his wife, Lorraine Hanson, Austin; children: Susan Hanson, Paul and Nancy Hanson, Oliver Springs, Tenn., Julie and Mark Placek, Austin; grandchildren: Stuart Hanson, Christopher Placek and Curtis Hanson; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Schewe and Gaige Schewe-Placek; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Gordon Larson Officiating.  Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
Honorary bearers will be Curtis Hanson, Stuart Hanson, Christopher Placek, Ashlynn Schewe and Gaige Schewe-Placek.
