Clara May Nelson, 94, formerly of Austin, died on Aug. 7, 2009 at Charter House, Rochester where she resided.
Clara May Torgerson was born to Lourntz G. and Emma (Nelson) Torgerson on March 21, 1915 in Moscow, Minn. She married Glen S. Nelson 75 years ago on Aug. 30, 1936 at First United Methodist Church in Austin. Clara was a homemaker, and with her husband Glen, was in business in Austin. They owned Nelson’s Super Market and Nelson’s Wheel Estates Mobile Home Park. Clara was a member of First United Methodist Church in Austin where she was a lay leader, secretary of the Administrative Board and president of the Women’s Society. She was also a member of the Art and Travel Club, P.T.A., League of Women Voters, Zonta International, the Red Cross Grey Ladies and the Girl Scouts. Clara and Glen lived in Austin all their married lives until they made their home at Charter House in Rochester in 2003.
 Surviving are her husband, Glen; son, Leighton S. (Barbara) Nelson, Dunnellon, Fla. and Rochester, Minn.; daughter, Audrey M. Nelson, Punta Gorda, Fla. and Rochester; five grandchildren, Janell Ann Nelson, Craig Bernatz, Scott Bernatz, Lori Loverink and Brad Bernatz; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; Alyce Ashley and Hazel Bondank.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Reverend Patricia Toschak officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. The Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is in charge of the arrangements for the family. The family prefers memorials to the Charter House, Rochester or First United Methodist Church of Austin.
